Why Creative Execs Will Shine in the Age of AI.

The age of creativity? Isn’t it all about the age of AI?

All the recent buzz has been about AI.  Will generative AI technologies like Chat GPT make human communication irrelevant as everything can be outsourced to bots?  Can all, some, or many jobs be automated? The degree to which AI will play into the future of Hollywood, for example, continues to remain an issue on the ongoing writers and actors strike.

Many questions still remain as we look ahead to the landscape and how it will be reshaped by AI.

And while thinking about work being replaced by robots is fearful at most, and unsettling at the least, I don’t think it’s all bad news for experienced professionals. Quite the opposite.

I think unique and creative thinking is about to become a premium. In a sea of quick answers and access to information, the unique X factors in skills and expertise will become important differentiators. Especially for those who have the genuine skill in insight in what it takes to create new ideas and see them grow.

On the topic of letting ideas grow and the process of creating, one of the books I’ve been reading and recommending this summer is the NY Times Bestseller The Creative Act: A Way of Being, by Rick Rubin.   Rubin was a Co-founder of Def Jam, which he started from his college dorm room.  In this book, he distills his learnings, advice, and process on what it means to keep uniquely creating.   I especially appreciate Rubin’s perspectives right now in juxtaposition to the constant talk about automation.

While not all of us are going to be the founders of a record label or be early to a new music movement, it’s the skills that Rubin talks about that will set people apart right now.

So yes, even in the Age of AI, I think we’ll see more about the Age of Creativity and the opportunity for Experts and Experienced professionals to uniquely own what they bring to an organization, showcasing their expertise, their insight, their personality, and why uniquely them.
